Calacatta Viola or Breccia Medicea is a prestigious marble coming from Tuscany used in numerous constructions since Roman times. The Breccia Medicea was widely used by Cosimo I de ‘Medici, Lord of Florence who had a monopoly on the Seravezza quarries and made the Breccia Medicea the symbol of its power by making it used in the choir of the Florence Cathedral, in the Pitti Palace and in the Chapels Medici. Still today, visiting the main museums of Florence, we find the Calacatta Viola used for the door frames, fireplaces or claddings. It is a marble with a more or less clean white background and purple arabesques. Sometimes the purple color of the grain fades towards pink and green with golden flashes, typical of Vagli marble. The quarries have limited productivity and the blocks must be resined before cutting, in order to prevent breakage in the slabs, which are resined again to repair any natural micro-cracks. Ziche Marmi carries out all these processes at the modern factory in Brescia (IT), where the slabs are subjected to triple vacuum resin processing with epoxy resins. This processing of the highest quality and technology improves the surface of the slabs by reducing their porosity and structural micro-fractures without alternating their natural color.
